Assessment
We check each door’s construction, condition and any fittings to confirm the best method and flag anything that needs special care.
Collection
No transport headaches. We collect from your door at a previously agreed date and time, for a flat £30.
Dipping
Each door is lowered into a warm caustic solution to lift away every layer of paint, then pressure-washed clean.
Neutralising
Once stripped, each piece is neutralised to remove any remaining agent and prevent future paint or timber problems down the line.
Drying & sanding — optional
We dry the doors in a controlled environment and sand them smooth, ready for you to apply the finish of your choice.
Wax or oil finish — optional
We offer a wax or oil finish to protect the wood and bring out its natural grain.
Quality inspection
Every door is checked against our standards before it leaves the workshop.
Delivery
We return your doors promptly, ready for refitting.
Types of interior door we strip
- Panel doors — two-, four- and six-panel doors, the classic British internal door.
- Victorian & Edwardian doors — period four-panel doors with fine mouldings and detail.
- 1930s doors — three-panel and part-glazed doors typical of inter-war homes.
- Pine doors — soft, knotty pine that strips back to a warm, honey finish.
- Oak & hardwood doors — solid hardwood doors (note: oak can darken slightly).
- Glazed & part-glazed doors — doors with glass panels, dipped with extra care.

We assess each door, collect it from you, then lower it into a warm caustic solution for 30–45 minutes to lift away every layer of paint and varnish. It's then pressure-washed, neutralised, dried, optionally sanded and waxed, quality-checked and delivered back to you as bare timber.
Interior door stripping starts from £35 per door. The exact price depends on the door's size and construction, the number of paint layers, whether it has glass panels, and whether you'd like it sanded or waxed. Collection and return is a flat £30 for the whole job.
We'll give you a timescale with your quote. Most doors are collected and returned within a week or so, depending on the number of doors and our workshop schedule.
Yes. Glass-panelled doors can be dipped, but there is a slight risk of the glass cracking, so any glass left in is at the owner's risk. Our team takes extra care with glazed doors.
Most timber strips back beautifully. Oak, walnut and mahogany can darken slightly during stripping. Veneered and plywood doors aren't recommended for dipping as they can warp, but can be hand-stripped instead.
Yes, please remove all handles, hinges and door furniture before collection.
Stripping back to bare timber gives the cleanest, longest-lasting finish. Painting over many old layers can leave a lumpy result that chips and peels — starting from bare wood avoids that.
