Window shutter stripping that brings back the timber grain
Original timber window shutters are a beautiful period feature, but generations of paint seize the hinges and bury the detail. At Global Door Stripping we dip and strip window shutters back to bare timber — lifting paint out of every corner and joint that you could never reach by hand.
Dipping strips the whole shutter evenly, revealing the grain underneath. We can get them ready for you to apply finish, or finish them with wax or oil for protection of the wood. Solid timber shutters dip beautifully; delicate or veneered ones are hand-stripped instead. Get in touch for more info.

How window shutter dipping works
Assessment
We check each shutter’s construction, condition and any fittings to confirm the best method and flag anything that needs special care.
Collection
No transport headaches. We collect from your door at a previously agreed date and time, for a flat £30.
Dipping
Each shutter is lowered into a warm caustic solution to lift away every layer of paint, then pressure-washed clean.
Neutralising
Once stripped, each piece is neutralised to remove any remaining agent and prevent future paint or timber problems down the line.
Drying & sanding — optional
We dry the shutters in a controlled environment and sand them smooth, ready for you to apply the finish of your choice.
Wax or oil finish — optional
We offer a wax or oil finish to protect the wood and bring out its natural grain.
Quality inspection
Every shutter is checked against our standards before it leaves the workshop.
Delivery
We return your shutters promptly, ready for refitting.

Solid timber shutters strip back well. Very delicate, thin or veneered shutters are assessed first and hand-stripped where dipping isn't suitable, to avoid weakening the joints.
No — only solid timber shutters can be dipped. MDF, faux-wood and veneer shutters aren't suitable for the dipping process. We can strip those with the hand stripping method — please get in touch for more info.
Shutters come back as bare timber, ready for you to finish according to your preference, or if you prefer we can finish them with either wax or oil.
